Homopobia and Christians.

Last year on the first semester I realized that straight after Homophobia Day, many Christian youth groups started forming groups to tackle this problem. The funny thing about this was that the leaders of the group went straight ahead and just started preaching against homosexuals, bisexuals, transsexuals, etc without ever talking to them first. This was sort of like became a trend with them.

I would get a shock there would be students coming to ask if I can spare five minutes so they could share something with me. The screwed up thing about it is that they would talk about homosexuality and how it was a sin and should also start telling my friends about it. At first I thought that it would die off, but more came and they talked and talked and never stopped. It became sort of like an irritant itch that would not go away. It became an everyday thing. 

I have no idea who was more pissed, the people who were going through this, or me. I realized that many of my friends who preferred the same sex started feeling uneasy around Christians and held felt that they could not go to church. Instead of talking to them or realizing their potential as individuals, people stared to label them. The media started to label them as well.

A friend of mine who was a male and preferred male companionship said that he was really starting to hate the Christians and their way of trying to spread what they thought was the gospel

I think the great Ghandi had it right when he said 

I love your Christ, I do not like your Christians.Your Christians are so unlike your Christ

Do not get me wrong. Throughout the posts you may think I am an atheist of some sort. Lord knows I have also wanted to be one. Yet I do believe in a higher power. Like Mahatma Gahandi, I do believe in the Christ, I just absolutely refuse to believe in the Christians.

                                                                      

In 1Cor 13:4-7 it talks about love which is the greatest command by Jesus it says

4Love is patient, love is kind, it is not envious. Love does not brag, it is not puffed up. 5It is not rude, it is not self-serving, it is not easily angered or resentful. 6It is not glad about injustice, but rejoices in the truth. 7It bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.

Compare that to self-serving rude people who act a little higher than you because they can say a few bible verses off their heads, you get people hating on you and hating your beliefs and the good things sowed by many in ancient times have become something to be ridiculed about.

It is a wonder they have survived this long. I remember that they were being persecuted in the past for their belief, but now it’s the other way around. Today they seem to be persecuting others’ beliefs and doing it outrageously. I see those hand bands one wears that say WWJD which stands for What would Jesus Do. It turns out I think they are blind themselves.

 I met a youth leader who seems to agree as well. He had a story to tell, and i will relay it to you.

So he was walking with this young girl on campus. She turns over and sees a few gay guys goofing around. She turns to the guy and says whether those gay guys are not ashamed to be stepping into church or not. He did not want to correct her, but he just let that slide. 

So what would Jesus DO. Would YOU treat the people who sin like the jews did with leprosy or would you treat a stranger with love and patience, like the Samaritan who cared for beaten up man who was a stranger on the road.

Like Ghandi said like the christ but not the christians. In the same way, one could hate the sin, but still love the sinner.
